12 Feb 2008: N. gracilis hill in Perak, Malaysia

Location: Kuala Lumpur N. gracilis hill in Perak, Malaysia « Thread Started on Feb 12, 2008, 10:26am » Just share some pictures of this site at my hometown. Eventhough many considers gracilis to be a common and not attractive plant, I see them differently. To me this is a surviver. They can be found in so many different environments and media. In cultivation they are one of the easiast to cultivate. I admire them for their will to survive. On top of this the plant is a beauty when covered with a couple of dozen pitchers. So here are the pictures... The little hill... The plants... I like this whole bunch of plants growing over a rock. A maroon plant... There were alot of seed pods but the seeds have all been dispersed... . Some of the plants were growing on the the rock face of the hill with a very shallow sandy media. Amazing! The rocks and media are burning hot from the scorching sun, and quite dry. The media below. I think 90% is sand / rocks and the rest dust / yellow earth. some were growing among ferns and bushes... This little hill is about 300-400 meters away from the sea and only about 100 meters high. View from the top of the little hill... The seaside... bactrus Location: Penang Re: N. gracilis hill in Perak, Malaysia « Reply #1 on Feb 12, 2008, 2:51pm » What is that structure on the sea? Looks like a crane. I think that construction has been abandoned. Not sure what it is for. Perhaps a platform for ships to dock. Never went there to check it out. sockhom Location: France Re: N. gracilis hill in Perak, Malaysia « Reply #3 on Feb 13, 2008, 8:06am » Great field report David . I do like this species. Those pictures with plants thriving on rocks are a truly amazing sight. Guess all of you guys must be boring to look at it. Well. I am still loving it. As its pitcher growing in different colors. Went to somewhere in Perak again to shoot some pictures. As one of my friend is going to write an article about the West Malaysia pitcher plant in wild.
