My mexican ping`s leaves tend to rot when exposed to too much water. I`m not supposed to water them from the top right ? Cos that`s how my adult mex ping rotted away ( when it got rained on everyday last year with minimum sun exposure ) Do you think I can expose the mex ping to full sun, put in in high water level & even if it rains, it`ll be no problem coz the leaves will eventually drip dry ? Mexican Pings shoudl not be kept wet up to the brim! Keep their tray permanently full of water throughout their growing season-I presume your water trays are about an inch high? If so then thats fine. I grow the vast majority of my Mexican Pings in full sun and plenty of water(water tray always full)and I have never had a plant rot since I started keeping them this way. They doesn`t seem to grow big at all but they does have plantlets at the leaf tips. They are nowhere near the maturity size shown by Lim. Are they slow growers ? I`ve had mine for about 2 months & there`s nary any growth. The good thing is the plant isn`t rotting or turning brown /black either. The leaf shape changes just like any other plant. More sun, smaller less green and tougher leaves, less sun, bigger greener softer leaves. Bifurcatum, what is it growing in? Doesn't look like sphagnum... Plus I find stronger plants grow in full sun with the water level up to the brim of the pot. Try do that. Looks like it needs alot more sun. But full sun is dangerous, forget to fill the water up to the brim for 2 mornings and the plant will start to burn. I forgot for 1 morning and the new leaf was a bit curled, luckily nothing serious. Mine look like bifurcatum's. Then later died. However I manage to get two baby plantlets before the mother plant died. These two are repoted in sphagnum peat moss and perlite. I did not place them on a water tray but kept the media always wet. Then one died and the other looks like it is mearely existing. I shifted that one on a tray of RO water. It is now thriving and it looks like tarence ping. Although mine in not under sun but it is under 16 hours of artificial lights. So, perhaps what works for this species is: - sphagnum peat moss media - water tray method - clean distilled/RO water - alot of sunlight Link to Post - Back to Top http://s4.images.proboards.com/ip.gif LoggedMy Wantlist piscesilim Global Moderator http://s4.images.proboards.com/starred.gifhttp://s4.images.proboards.com/starred.gifhttp://s4.images.proboards.com/starred.gifhttp://s4.images.proboards.com/starred.gifhttp://s4.images.proboards.com/starred.gifhttp://s4.images.proboards.com/starred.gifhttp://s4.images.proboards.com/starred.gif member is offline Joined: Dec 2006 Gender: Male http://s4.images.proboards.com/male.gif Posts: 463 Location: Bukit Mertajam, Penang http://s4.images.proboards.com/xx.gifRe: My P. primuliflora. « Reply #33 on Jul 1, 2007, 11:35pm » Quote:Lim : yep, full sun.... All well grown Pinguicula will have curved leaves...its to force insects into the middle of the leaf and to stop them escaping. You will also find that primuliflora's in sahde, as well as not being such good insect catchers, will also succumb to rot much more readily then those in full sun.
