David, I find that a very easy till to grow. They seem to love sun (they will put on a pinkish hue close to the leaf base) and don't mind being in rain or heavy watering. After a while you may find the plant having a strange leaf formation like a dish drier's criss-cross design.

Thanks for the info funkychips. I recently installed a 500 watts metal halide plant light at the ceiling above my plants. Will see if that does the trick. I've placed all the sun loving Tills under the lighting.
The lighting is super bright I tell you. Kinda like having a super nova in the house. So I decided to put it on timer from 10am to 1pm so that when I get back from work at night, the house is cooler and it does not seem like I have aliens in my house (because of the bright lights). On the first day I tried out, the timer did not work properly and the light was still on when I got home at night. When I got home, from the parking when I look up it looks like my apartment block is a lighthouse. I can see a beam of light coming out through the window of my apartment. Hope my neighbours from another block do not think that aliens have landed in my apartment. I had a shock when I got into the house. My entire living hall was swarmed with insects because of the lights. But it's good ina sense as my Drosera had their filled that night. Caught as many insects as I could and feed them to my CPs.

Hi Andy,
At the moment no leafburn. I was so worried on the first day as the timer did not work properly and the light was on for about 10 hours. I hope the effects of leafburn is not delayed. Hope the leaves won't show burn marks in the next few days. I am having the light on for 3 hours now and see how. Will slowly increase the duration or hours.

Hi David,
Yes, metal halides are like spotlight lamps, very warm if run on the standard 6-8 hour daily basis. But they work wonders for indoor plants. Maybe installing a standalone fan also attached to the timer would help prevent the heat from stagnating. Killing two birds with one stone: Insect attractant and light provider. Do keep us updated on your alien wonderland ![]()

At the moment I switch on my ceiling fan when I go to work. I think I will only switch on the lights for a maximum of 3 hours. Maybe 4 maximum. Don want the house to heat up too much and I have ellectricity bill to worry about.

Metal halide light source is next to sunlight. We actually can get suntan from it. So be careful with the UV rays especially when there are ppl around in the house.
Leaf burn is immediate if the plant get burned. You can see totally bleached or brown patches on the leaves within a day or two. If not , then the plant is safe within its' tolerance range. David, I don't want to unable to recognize you after a year or two ![]() ![]() ![]() |
