my setups
few versions of my old setup(I'm going to dismantle it and replacing it with a new terrarium-sth like the one at the end of the thread)
my first the second one i built (bigger one) I am putting here hose for the fogger after i finished it looked like that I added two of the last setup so I'l have bigger space for the new one. this is the last one (I must say ,I dont reccomend this kind of setup for nepenthes -it's to small, once they get big you have a problem). |

Re: my setups
This is my new project(ultra highland setup)
I am going to build the same without the cooling system for the rest of my planets( for replacing my grow chamber) The building I used polystyrene for the frame. that's the results. after that I went to the carpenter and made the tracks for the glass. I bought the glass in the measurements I needed. and finito ( the terrarium measurements are 110 L\70 W\100 H) now for the cooling system my uncle helped me to build this(basically we build a refrigerator) the parts left to right(compressor \fan\not sure what the name{heat sink or cooling ribs} cooling plate at the end the cold plate the one thing left is 1.to get my planets (hopefully this weekend) 2.need to buy lights(if you have recommendation pleas advice) Last edited by adilevi424; 25th September 2008 at 07:23 PM. |

Re: my setups
Woah Adi,
Look like a big project!!! One question: can the polystylene support the heavy glass? It's interesting to see it work! Keep us updated Adi, thanks for the thread. |

I love to see people's projects. So interesting.
In the first picture, on the right of the grow chamber, is that a humifyer? And you use hose to channel the humid air into the chamber? Looks cool. I think I'm gonna start looking for an old refrigerator compressor. You give me hope that this can be done and it looks like something that I can afford. I've always wanted to grow highlander such as N. macfarlanei, N. vilosa, N. burbidgeae, N. rajah, N. veitchii (highland), N. ramispina, N. sanguinea, etc. No doubt we can still grow N. sanguinea and maybe N. ramispina in lowland conditions but they will not reach their full potential. I want huge gigantic pitchers! Hmm, if I build this like how you do it, I might need to build a wooden frame for the sides and back or else my son will be picking on the polysterine until there is a hole in it. He's already doing it to the piece of polysterine at the bottom of my glass terrarium. TS, I think the polysterine can hold the weight. It looks quite thick. Only worry is if somebody knock hard on the polysterine and break it. That might give way to the glass above. Adi, How will you be placing the lightings? Hung from the ceiling or on top of the glass? Looking at the height of your set up, I think the plants would be about 30 inches from the lightings? My recommendation would be to get metal halide.

Re: my setups
hi Adi
thx for sharing with us your project...very interesting. i see sarracenias, a ping, some neps, what else is there ? i can almost make out a cobra lily. are there any vfts or sundews ? David, if you try it, just build one tier so that your highland neps potentially can have a huge happy place to grow. Lets see those highland neps pitchering in your condo man. |

what mh do you recommend 250 or 400 w my concern it will fracture the glass because of the heat,so I will might putt 4 t5 lights of 55 w(what do you think about this lighting setup)? Tarence I don't have vfts or sundews right now. I am getting my highland nep this week ,hope they will survive the trip. |
