LSM - Live Sphagnum Moss, LFS - Long Fibre Sphagnum Moss (dried)
I sowed some D. indica seeds on a mixture of LFS, peat and sand some time ago. The D. indica seedlings are now about 1/2cm across. ![]() Within the same period, LSM regenerated in areas without any seeds. ![]()

could it be the spores that led to the regeneration?

Malowie, there are spores already in the LFS I used for the media. However, regeneration of LSM is not common and as readily achievable in our weather because the LFS is often soon covered by algae.
In cooler conditions, overseas growers have got better rate of success. Probably the same reason why LSM grows much faster for them and they need to trim them back to prevent the moss from covering seedlings or short plants. ![]()

Aliamyz,
How about sharing the conditions in which LSM regenerated for you? The purpose of my thread is to share conditions so that people without LSM at the moment can try getting some from their LFS. Btw, I used New Zealand sphagnum moss. Not sure if the ones from China works. My conditions were *bright light for the whole day and about 1-2 hours of direct sunlight *media was kept soggy all all the time *disposable container was not covered

Hi Cindy
I never had my LFS turn to life again......Most of the time they just all turn into algae infested soil.....Which doesn't affect my plants..but doesn't look good...Well like you said you used the NZ one and i use the cheap LFS hehehe cheapskate.....The NZ ones normally has a yellowish colour in it.. And malowie I'm not sure but looks like algae ![]() Ken

Yeah, I think that is LSM. My germination box for drosera burmanii and indica hasn't shown any progress yet, but I start to suspect that the sphagnum moss is beginning to regenerate. It has become more green and upright. So now I am conducting an experiment on the sphagnum moss. I use four boxes, two where the sphagnum moss is soaked like aquatics,
![]() Two boxes, I 'stratify' them in the fridge. The other two boxes were left alone. So far nothing has shown up, except stinky moss. ![]() Cheers

Hmm, a picture would help, but since you said that it is too small, then might as well wait till it grows bigger. It could be normal moss or sphagnum or something else.
Cheers
