How to get big petpitchers?
I see that many member's neps have big pitchers relative to small leaves, but mine does not. So I want to know which factor can effect the volume of the pitchers? Please give me some advice. Thank you...

Re: How to get big petpitchers?
Hi there! Just share a little of my experience. For me, I think sunlight and humidity plays an important part in the development of the pitchers and how big they can get. Also I've came across a grower who has N. truncata pitchers as big and as long as my arm. According to him, he fertilised his Neps with an organic fertiliser that is formulated from plant extract and material.

Re: How to get big petpitchers?
Light is one of the most important thing in getting big pitchers. During the summer the sun raises temperatures into the mid 100's and 50% humidity in New York. My eymae made pitchers an inch larger than the leaves. But at those temperatures the plants were watered twice a day.

Re: How to get big petpitchers?
Guess it boils down to the basic cultivation of Nepenthes... Lots of Sunlight, Humidity and Water.
Of course the plant must be supplemented with insect prey or fertiliser. But note not all fertiliers can be used. What growers use are plant hormones, organic fetrtilisers, etc. Fertilisers burn the roots and kill the plant and it is a controversial subject among growers.

Ei? Plant hormone?
What is that ? Where can I get it... :P I've already tried: 1) sunlight (under the bonsai tree) 2) humidity (near where my neighbor air cond water drips from and not far from the water lily pond...err i mean pots) 3) fertilizer (orchid fertilizer). my biggest neps record up to date is a 3 inch. LOL. |

Re: How to get big petpitchers?
EP probably doesn't use peat because peat isn't usually near where neps grow.

Re: How to get big petpitchers?
In my experience of growing pitcher plant,i've notice that humidity is the 1st and most important factor in getting a big pitcher.Sunlight comes in 2nd.Plus the pitcher will last longger....
