Default N. Attenboroughii hits mainstream news

http://edition.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/as...ant/index.html

http://news.bbc.co.uk/earth/hi/earth...00/8195029.stm

Two articles about N. Attenboroughii, lots of sensationalism of course and lot of inaccuracies, they even added a photo of a Northiana with a mouse in it, just to show that Neps are Rat eaters! Gosh!

Here in Philippines, there were two news report on TV using or flashing the same Northiana and mouse photo, with very general information about the discovered species.

Anyways, at least the latest Nepenthes Discovered has reached "mainstream".

This version in the NY Daily News, (which depicts a N. burb as the new Nep species) claims that NYC is considering using these plants to control the rat population in their mass transit system! I told them they would have a far better chance of getting rid of all the cockroaches and mosquitoes in NYC if they just planted VFTs and sundews in all their wetlands, swamps and landfills. Yep, but look at the bright side - CNN has now given us 600 species of Nepenthes, so all of our collections can really expand now! I keep wondering how 2 years has passed since this discovery and it's only now hitting the big news stands?

I don't think they eat rats.Maybe someone put them inside and the next morning"Hey!I found a rat in the pitcher plant!" and photos taken.

where they usually drown or die of exhaustion, and then are dissolved
The rat is perfectly fine in the Northiana?

600 species ??? ( not include hybrid ), I think the number of species of nepenthes only random from 200 to 150.

Shawn maybe the 600 is all the CPs in the world? Again misinformation or under researching.

Rats can survive in the pitcher if it got there bottom side down. If the rat went in head first and lost grip, it will drown, pretty sure this is what happened with most of the rats and other bigger animals that have been caught by pitcherplants.
