Adelae needs help!

Well, the leaf cuttings obviously haven't done much yet, the remaining 'stalk' of the sickly plant is still looking horrible and I found more scales on it this morning when I checked it. May be a lost cause! Watching the others carefully!

Update on leaf cuttings of D. adelae from sickly plant (scale infested);

On Oct. 9th I decided to try to cut and 'clean' the leaves and did 3 procedures;
1. clean just with toothpick
2. clean with alcohol and toothpick
3. just leave alone

Now, on Nov. 3rd I see that 1 & 2 have both formed lots of little plantlets! While 3 hasn't done anything (yet). I noticed that a lot of the original leaf tissue was damaged by the pressure of the toothpicks and seemed to just 'melt' away, but it seems to have had little effect on their ability to form new plantlets. I did not change the water in the cases at all, this is the same water I started with on Oct 9th. In the future I think I will change the water more frequently as I can see algae forming in the bottom of all containers. So, there is hope for any plants that look beyond hope!

Hi David, These were the leaves from the plant that was heavily infested with scale, I used a toothpick to scrape them off. The other boxes each had a different technique and I wanted to be able to tell the results of each method, so labeled them.

Wow…so many plantlets....later u will get a lot of adelae…
Clean with alcohol and toothpick?? I also curious about it…how to clean??

I had a 10 gal tank with D. adelae growing in live sphagnum, in a 2 inch pot, and with about half an inch of water in the covered tank, under some florescent lamps. The sphagnum eventually overgrew the pot, fell out, and began to grow in the bottom of the tank, in the water. Eventually, live sphagnum grew and filled the bottom of the tank in the film of water.

Within a year, D. adelea was springing up all over the tank, as the roots went out from the bottom of the pot, and all over the wet sphagnum in half an inch of water in the bottom of the tank, and was actually better than the ones in the pot! dozens of them, which even crept into other pots in the tank! - Rich
