Re: Potting medium for cephalotus !!
Different mixes work for different people. I grow my Cephalotus in pure sphagnum moss but many people wouldn't even consider doing this. It just works for me. The common mix is 50:50 peat moss and sand. It is generally thought that Cephalotus prefer a well drained mix and that they are susceptible to root rot in wet/waterlogged conditions. You will need to ensure that the mix you use is low in nutrients and does not contain a high salt content.

Re: Potting medium for cephalotus !!
Please try to track down Cindy of this forum, she is a Ceph guru. I think there is a thread about Ceph potting mix somewhere in the forum as well. Good luck!
For your info, many say VFT should be in peat moss, my VFTs are all in Dried Sphagnum moss. So same thing as what Strath mentioned. TTFN Arvin

Re: Potting medium for cephalotus !!
Hi,
I know that cephalotus need oxy for root and pure sphagnum moss very hot and none oxygen and low drained so it will kill the plants, cephalotus is the hardest of CPs not like VFT and other. Hi Strath, Well autralia is more cooler than mine, Cindy I think she use 75% peat 25% perlite and peat is can't find here. |

Re: Potting medium for cephalotus !!
It may be worth trying a mix of perlite and vermiculite. These are similar prodicts but vermiculite does retain moisture. However as I said before different mixes work for different people.
