Hi Aaron
Yeah i think its a Akai Ryu/Red Dragon but i may be wrong because the akai ryu i've seen has much smaller leaves but the traps are about the same size as yours.Anyway nice guy.The media is LFS rit?? Ken |

Re: Venus Fly Trap ID Please
Some VFT will not turn red even if you give it intense sunlight. Some VFTs are easy to become red. It depends on the cultivar. Maybe yours is a pure green?

Re: Venus Fly Trap ID Please
VFT is the most difficult CP to ID once you lost the tag. They grow differently in diferent conditions. More over some of the forms look similar. Unless what you have is really distinctive like cupped trap, fused tooth etc. Try to get the name from your source. The one you have could be red dragon, pink venus, royal red.....

Re: Venus Fly Trap ID Please
I told Casey this on GCS forum.
"If the plants were bought without labels as to which form/clone/cultivar they are, then no one can really tell. We can all guess but if you are not sure, then don't label it. To fit as a cultivar (which is only a few), it is not only the colour. The growth pattern, the petiole as well as the teeth make a difference. Some of the characteristics can vary in different growing conditions. People have sought after the Akai Ryu, only to find that it doesn't colour up for them and looks green year round. Others just walked into the local nursery, bought a cheap but nice looking red VFT and it stays like that for them in their growing conditions. My personal take on this...don't bother what it is. If it grows well for you, always take cuttings as back up for the main plant to go into dormancy and not recovering. For more info, read these: Various clones http://www.freewebs.com/vftshop/vftgallery.htm See how a particular clone can be different when grown by different people http://www.humboldt.edu/~rrz7001/Dionaea.html" |
