I am glad I gave you one (or was it 2, can't remember) or else all of them would have died. I would be glad if you can give me the ****es in the future.

Tarence, I have 4 more but it just died a few weeks ago. I suspect it was the water because during that time I got lazy and use tap water to water it. It's ok if you use tap water outdoors as you can allow the water to flow out or the rain might wash the media once in a while but in a terrarium it's different.

Also I increased the speed of the fan blowing over the light ballast. That might have decreased the humidity in the terrarium as the air also flows into the growing area.

It turned brown on the leaves. Remember I mentioned to you before that my filiformis leaves are also turning brown at the tips? Now no more since I reduced the speed of the fan and use RO water again. But was too late to save the madagascarinsis.

I love this plant for it's unique growing stem. Also, it is the only sundew species found in Madagascar, where it came from. The best thing is it is a tropical plant.

I grew these from seeds.

Some pictures of my plants before it went to plant heaven. Here's a side view:

« Reply #9 on 8 Aug, 2007, 17:18 »Hi David, I have two young plants that died under lights. My problem with the species is that it kept going into "dormancy". And that was even before it starts growing the stem.

Fortunately, I managed to sprout leaf cuttings and now there are another two plants.

TS, how do you grow your plants?

« Reply #10 on 8 Aug, 2007, 22:56 »Hi Cindy, I placed it at a bright spot with 2 - 3 hours of direct morning sun, it grow super fast when it acclimatised to the growing condition. But I found this plant grow very slow in it's initial stage, but once it reaches about 2 to 3 cm height, the growth start to pace up. Link to Post - Back to Top LoggedTSDavid

« Reply #11 on 8 Aug, 2007, 23:06 »Hi Cindy, madagascarinsis goes into dormancy? I thought they are tropical plants and do not go into dormancy. Gee, I did not know that. What triger the dormancy then?

Hi Lim, I am always a little doubtful about water that are placed over night, whether the chlorine evaporates overnight. You can try and see. Maybe keep it for a few days. I did that once. Had a huge pail that I fill up with tap water. Keep it there for a few days before using it to water my plants. One thing I notice is that tap water is after a few days the water have a certain smell. Bacteria has started to grow. Also I feel the minerals and other desolve metals will still be in the water.
