The first picture is tree bark and it does nto look like pine bark to me. I have bought something like this before and potted my Neps in them. They are doing well.
... And you are right. The second picture is cocochips. Another great media for neps.

Yes, I've used it before without any problems. But do check the source if possible and see if the packing states that the menufacturrer added fertilisers etc.
