Re: seeds:)
For Sarra and Dionaea it would be best for you to purchase now. They both require stratification before sowing. By purchasing now you can give them 6 weeks in the fridge prior to sowing in spring. The Drosera really doesn't matter as they stay viable for years generally.

Re: seeds:)
ill order them on Friday and they will arrive in 8 days... ill plant them in the peat with a little moist and put them in a zip bag and then in the fridge for 2 months (September until December) I found a peat mix with the following composition:
blonde peat 60% fibrous peat 10% black peat 20% river sand 10% fertiliser NPK 14 - 16 -18 + mikroelemelts PH (H2O) 4, 0 - 5, 0 moisture 40% - 60% is it okay to plant them in this soil? this is the kind of seeds: VFT DIONAEA RED-GREEN - 10 seeds DROSERA Sp. LANTAU ISLAND - 10 seeds Drosera MADAGASCARIENSIS - 20 seeds and sarracenia mix seeds - 20 seeds |

Re: seeds:)
I use a mix of 50:50 peat and sand. Be careful with the fertiliser. I use a slow release fertiliser called Nutricote in Australia. I use the native blend as it isn't as strong and only use 3-4 grains in each pot. I place them about half way down when potting. Results are very good.

Re: seeds:)
im worried about the fertiliser too...its the only kind of peat i found in the whole island... In the website which I will buy the seeds there are these kind of soils which of them do u suggest me to buy?
sphagnum, a mixture of 2 parts of sphagnum peat moss and 1 part of perlite, peat moss. btw to be sure... I but the soil with the seeds in the fridge for 2 months ( from September until December ) and then I take them out and plant them in pots... this goes for all the seeds eh? can I plan the drosera's seeds right away? and how many seeds in each pot? sorry for the many questions but as u can see im completely new in this kind of things |

Re: seeds:)
Either use the middle one or just get the Peat Moss and mix with 50% coarse sand. Ensure the sand is washed. Depending on where the sand has come from it could have salts or other minerals mixed in with it.
As for the stratification. I put the seeds and soil mix in a zip lock bag and put them in the fridge. The time you are using is fine. The mix should be moist enough that when squeezed water comes out, and when released it is absorbed again. As for the Drosera you can sow them any time you like. The only consideration on how many to a pot is the ease/difficulty of potting them up when they have germinated. I would just try to space them so that you can take each one out individually to pot up later. You could of course plant them like a carpet and just let them grow that way. Dont' worry about the questions. That's what the forum's for. Cheers. |
