Wonder why my pygmies died last time. At that time I use more peat/s.moss in the media. Is there a specific media for different sundews and perticularly pygmies?

They are puchella hybrids with occidentalis or ericksoniae. I can't tell difference after I sown them on the same media. It is peat and coarse sand mix. I find that pygmies die soon after they start growing from gemmae...or maybe because the sand is too coarse and the roots cannot penetrate down to get water. I lost about half of them already. But these few very tough and I will try to get some gemmae from them later when the weather is cooler.

I don't grow sundews in pure perlite anymore. Not that there is anything wrong but the perlite growing was for more precious plants...D. intermedia was very rare to me in the beginning. Hehe.

« Reply #3 on 9 Aug, 2007, 1:31 »I am not sure. You see three mixtures: peat/coarse sand, peat/fine sand and even LFS! The D. pymaea came from seeds. I am equally puzzled because the online info given is that pygmies require very sandy mix and very deep pots.

Perhaps the dying is due to natural selection for our conditions. I hope. hehe.
