Hi Jess,

For me I would chop the sphagnum moss up because if you use only long sphagnum moss, there are alot of big gaps inbetween the strain of moss and the seeds will get burried under the moss. The seeds need to be sprinkle above the media. Do not cover them with media.

It is ok if you do not have a terrarium. Just place the seeds where you would place an adult plant. That would be the perfect condition for it. Just need to provide more water and humidity to the seeds.

Well, all the "Ministers of Home Affairs" will put a price on my head but... I use the blender to chop dried sphagnum to fine enough consistency to lay out flat in my boxes. Break it up as much as possible first (no big clumps) and use short blasts of blending...there's little/no resistance for the motor, so it heats up fast and you don't want to burn it out! The moss is so light that the un-chopped stuff will 'float' above the blades, hence the short blasts.
I agree with David, no problem as long as you have time to check them to make sure they 'never' dry out. I myself have seed boxes where they only get an hour's early morning direct sun and just bright but in-the-shade light the rest of the day.

Hey Aaron, it's so cute - like a small ball!

Btw, someone mentioned I can get the S. Moss at most hardware store, did I hear correctly? I hope I have time this weekend to get it.

Sigh! I think my biggest problem now is figuring the best spot to to place the seeds. During the day now it seems to rain everyday, flooding everything. If I'm not careful, even the pot will fly away. Yup, stuff has flown of my window area before... Speaking of which, there goes the thunder outside in KL...

And to add to that I'll be away (going to Japan) next week from Wed night till the following Thu. Eeeps... So, if I fail with the seeds, where do ya think I can get a new plant or 2?

Keep the sown pot in doors. Place seeds mostly in the middle but space them out if possible. Those falling on the side will get washed in or gravitate to the side of the pot.

If you fail, pm me.
