I dont know other Bicals, but my Bical is more prone to sun burn. *off topic* Sumtimes it is important to do double posting, because when we edit/ modify the previous post, other members are not notified- the folder icon did not turn into blue color on the first page. I don't even look at the colour of the threads. I just look at last 10 recent posts. It's much easier. If there are more than 10 new posts I just run the search blank for the last 30 posts or something. And yes bical needs more shade Link to Post - Back to Top 219.95.43.62 artificialive Pioneer Member / Global Moderator member is offline Joined: Dec 2006 Gender: Male Posts: 713 Location: Ayer Keroh, Malacca Re: My New Neps Arrived!!!!!!!! « Reply #8 on May 8, 2007, 6:00pm » Yeah, every people have their own preferences Link to Post - Back to Top 60.52.175.33[Naj Grow List] --- [Naj Wanted List] bifurcatum Senior Member member is offline Joined: Jan 2007 Gender: Male Posts: 381 Location: Batu Pahat, Johor Re: My New Neps Arrived!!!!!!!! « Reply #9 on May 8, 2007, 7:32pm » Now I put them under 100% shade but bright. N. veitchii is an epiphyte and the leaves can be long, they grow in the wild by attaching their leaves and roots against tree trunks, so they love plenty of room and air circulation. If you have a hanging basket with holes that would be best, something like these (as you can see they are not actually "pots", they are garbage containers): Link to Post - Back to Top 202.154.24.228 bifurcatum Senior Member member is offline Joined: Jan 2007 Gender: Male Posts: 381 Location: Batu Pahat, Johor Re: My New Neps Arrived!!!!!!!! « Reply #12 on May 9, 2007, 4:24pm » Thanks Rajah . My media does not have enough air flow. It grew super slow. How about the humidity for this particular nep? Link to Post - Back to Top 60.50.243.81TS zakhren Senior Member member is offline I'm back! We have natural humidity and with a top layer of sphagnum the humidity increases. Yeah, knowing the natural environment they grow, we can try to mimic it to make it grow healthier.. The basket has smaller holes at the side. Hard for damp peat moss to go through. The 2nd pic looks like he uses wood of some kind? Everythigs goes well yesterday. Base on my experience and environment, N.veitchii require a drier media compared to the N.bicalcarata. They also require brighter light. On how to differentiate the N.bicalcarata from Marudi or Sri Aman - the type from Marudi willhave a wider leaf and th pitcher will be more globous compared to the Sri Aman type. That is a general characterisic that I am using. For some you may not be able to diff them until certain stage when the pitcher is big enough Thanks Link to Post - Back to Top 203.106.163.226Nepenthes - unique plant for unique individual www.dapat.net/4zeplant rajah New Member member is offline Joined: Apr 2007 Gender: Male Posts: 41 Location: Bandung, Indonesia Re: My New Neps Arrived!!!!!!!! « Reply #19 on May 10, 2007, 1:03pm » Those plants belong to Mr. Jax and Mr. Suska, friends of mine in Bogor. The first picture (yellow basket) contains N. veitchii, and the pink basket contains N. northiana. Fauzi is right, N. veitchii likes semi-dry media. The medium in the yellow basket is a mixture of shredded tree-fern fiber + large-fiber sphagnum moss + cocopeat + burnt rice hull (arang sekam) + zeolite/perlite. To avoid the medium from being washed out, the holes are covered by shredded tree-fern fibers. This mix can stay good for 2 days without water. The second (pink) basket uses large coconut husk fibers/cubes just like being used by Borneo Exotics. Pure peat moss tends to compact by age, that's against the idea.
