Below is KW's introduction that was PMed to me. He has allowed me to post on the forum on his behalf...

Hi David,

Sorry, I thought I had responded. Never mind, I will start again. My interest is in Nepenthes and where I am in Sydney allows me to grow a large variety of plants which I have been doing so the last few years. It also give me great access to Exotica Plants material though some species are hard to obtain (and expensive) due to our strict quarantine laws.

I was born & brought in Taiping but came and settled here many years ago. Still, my family and my heart is very much in Malaysia and I try to return every year if I can. Hence the reason I grow nepenthes as a bond to my past where I spent a lot of time at the foothills of Bukit Larut (Maxwell's Hill).

Though climatically I can grow most highland & lowlanders nothing beats seeing them in the wild. It is that opportunity many in the west will give their eye teeth for. For this reason I am envious of you in the Peninsular and those in Sabah & Sarawak.

My family is now residing in KL, though I have a brother in Ipoh and a sister in Alor Star. There is no immediate family left in Taiping. You will probably guess that I am closer to your parent's generation and when I am in Taiping it is for Cheng Beng.

At the end of the month I will be attending the ICPS conference. That should be interesting with many luminaries of the carnivorous plant world speaking. Hope to get some new plants too.

Regards

K.W. Yap
