Default Veitchii beauties

the hairy veitchii, a humble beginning...

it comes in diverse forms and colours.

some growers i met mentioned that veitchii from the kelabit highland "climb" on trees but trees being sparse hence it was rare to observe? perhaps the statement was untrue. In-situ observation showed most scramble on the ground. where trees are available they climbed but their tendrils are not in uniform arrangement, as in the case of sabah's maliau basin tree clasping form. Any comment and why?

Very beautiful! There certainly is a diverse number of different veitchii. I've have no idea why in-situ's vetchii rarely climb but if there are few trees there, they may have evolved to scramble for more support and possibly less exposure to sunlight. Just a guess....

EDIT: What I meant about them scrambling to avoid exposure to sunlight is that the veichii makes use of the bush and other plants surrounding it (grasses, ferns, etc.) to shade it from direct sunlight. If there are few trees around, there's almost no shade so I'm guessing that the veitchii scramble among bushes and grasses to shade themselves rather than vine erectly upwards into the sun.

Gorgeous collage of veitchiis.. Has anyone tried growing them the natural way (mounted on wood)?

I try putting them on log with spahg moss about 2 month ago and still doing fine although the pitcher produce seems to be smaller. Maybe still acclimatizing. Hopefully they will continue to grow

yes, Edmund, these veitchiis are very "poisonous". They are easy to grow even in lowland but just need cool conds.
