Crystal Jewels lah. It is probably polyacrylamide gel. They use to have it in irregular shapes but now they make it in nice pearl shaped balls. The irregular ones usually have some fertiliser in them as well as colouring. Not too sure bout the round ones. The gel tend to get compacted. It was used as an additive to increase soil moisture content, but most people find it doesn't do it's job well. Then it became an indoor potting medium especially for Epipremnum (money plant) and Dracaena sanderiana.

Just use sphagnum moss/peat/perlite/etc. I call them crystal babies because thats what my younger brother call it. Some kids are collecting crystal jewels and claiming how it can grow babies and etc and will die. I can't believe my cousins think that too!! I tried to grow a VFT in crystal jewels before and kill it in 1 week.
