Harlem2347,
Noticed the 4th picture? The one with the dark grey lithops. The media does not look like it has much sand or gravel in it huh? I wonder if it's like that for the other plants in the other pictures where they just top up with large gravel.

![]() ![]() ![]() U still remember u post the info which Mr Uwe Beyer email u before? I got email him after that and ask him about media. He just said that he put pumice only. But I cant get pumice so I try put the sand and small stone 1st. So that’s why I will check my lithops and see they will grow root or not… |

Maybe it's how we water the plants too. If the media has mroe peat or compose, we'll need to wait a longer time before watering again. But then again, the roots will be soaking in the wet soil for too long.
Some websites mentioned the use of perlite instead of pumice. Pumice I think can't find in Mal. So far I have not seen it. Maybe other members have. But I don't think so it's a must to use pumice. Other site I surf said they mix with vermiculite. I have seen these being sold in ACE hardware store before. Whatever it is I am not taking the risk. I'll keep my Lithop's media very loose to make sure they do not rot.

Ya! David, u are right! How we watering is a way to get our Lithops grow well. I saw 1 article before. That grower said that better dun mix with peat moss. Because the small tidy insects easy survive in the peat moss and will damage the roots of Lithops. I know that many growers still will mix with peat. I quite scare so I try to use other media first. If really dun well, will mix peat. I still do a observation of my Lithops, they already get a new small roots…If they continue like that, I sure still use this method..
![]() I also never see pumice and vermiculite before. I ask many seller, they just said no know or dun sell. So I already give up! Just use my way to plant 1st, see whether can survive or not. This is also a good experience to let us more know the Lithops..Hhehe!! ![]() |
