Re: U. sandersonii's flower stalk?
Hi Caseyhoo, I'm not sure why your sandersonii isn't producing flowers as they are usually very prolific. I seemto remember though having read that Utric's are able to bypass the flower stage and produce seed pods. This could be what your plants are doing. I haven't heard of it happening with sandersonii before. I will try and remember where I saw it and read up on it.

Re: U. sandersonii's flower stalk?
Sandersonii, in the white, form usually throws up a lot of flowers for most of the year. This is unlike some others that flower only during ceretain times of the year. For example during winter. The blue flowered form does not flower quite so much. I can't remember the name of it when they bypass the flower. I will have to check my books when I get home from work.

Re: U. sandersonii's flower stalk?
OK I have done some research and come up with the technical name for what I have been trying to explain above.
I believe you may have cleistogamous flowers. These are flowers that do not open and are self pollinating in the bud. This is known to occur in Utricularia's but I have not seen or heard of it happening in sandersonii before. Perhaps others out there have had some experience of it in this species. Whilst this may explain why you don't have flowers it is little consolation for your loss. Last edited by strath76; 31st July 2008 at 02:50 PM. Reason: Spelling corrections |

Re: U. sandersonii's flower stalk?
Thanx for reply... U. sandersonii that I have is white form.
For U. sandersonii and U. graminifolia, normally it take how long for them to produce flower? I means time taken from producing flower stalk to flower. Hope my Utric producing some seeds... At least I have something, but, I prefer flower lar... |

Re: U. sandersonii's flower stalk?
One species I know of that bypass the flower stage is U. subulata. Mind don't show any flowers but seed pods.
But U. sandersonii usually flower non stop all year round. How long it take to flower.... hmm.... I didn't really take note on that but it won't take long, a week I guess or may abit longer. |
