Sarra's seeds germination
« Thread Started on Feb 2, 2008, 10:26pm »
Hi all, thinking of sharing information on my first Sarra seeds germination.

Got two species: S. Leucophylla and S. Psittacina

Media = 100% Long Fibre Spaghnum Moss, seeds are spread on top of the media, then put in a plastic bag and filled water to keep the media moist and sealed the plastic bag completely - I put in some pure O2 to fill the bag .

Stratification is inside the refrigerator (temp was around 10 - 16^C) stayed for 21 days. Date was Dec 01 - Dec 21 2007

Then taken out on Dec 22, 2007 and left it exposed to morning sunlight only and still in plastic bag and to my surprise they are started growing tiny leaf on first week of January 2008.

The picture below is taken Jan 27, 2008:
S. Leuco

S. Psitta

I have more germination rate on Leuco compare with Psitta.

They are still inside the plastic bag, only open when adding more water inside the bag.

I will say they are easier compares with germinating nep's seeds.

Thanks 'Bux' for the seeds and the tips on this one.

Njoy,
Ed

Sure Tarence you are welcome,

5 out of 7 is a very good number, yes couldn't agree more as they are really slow grower. Will try to take some picture over this weekend of my Sarra's seedlings as an update.

Here are the new updates on the seedlings:
S. Leuco

S. Psitta

Looks like the Leuco is growing faster compared with Psitta.
