How big can a Ping get?
How big can a Pinguicula get? What is the largest species and what is the size? I did not know this before last weekend.
Any guess? I've always thought the maximum size they could get is about 4-5 inches in diameter across. Perhaps I did not know better. So those experts who know please bear with me. I was so wrong about the size of 4-5 inches diameter. My jaw dropped and my eyes literally popped out when I saw this... Here's another picture with my hand for you to compare. By the way, the owner told me this is small. He had one that is almost double that size but some one bought it of him. This Ping is cultivated in Highland conditions in Cameron Highlands in pure Sphagnum moss by the owner.

Re: How big can a Ping get?
I have one of these too but on 4 inches across in diameter. You can find this in nurseries around Malaysia some times. Someone told me the name before but I can't remember. I think... if I remember correctly, it's P. xsethos. Here's a picture of the normal size ones we see in nurseries.
Casey, it's grown in Cameron Highland, in pure s. moss, under about (from my estimation) 70% shade cloth ad surounded by hundreds of Neps, orchids and other plants. The owner is a private collector.

Re: How big can a Ping get?
Here's something I saw earlier in the year. I did come across a pic of an even larger plant of this species, but can't remember where I saw it. I remember this one though, so if you guys are interested, you can check out this link(the pic isn't mine, so I can't post it directly): http://www.cpukforum.com/forum/index...howtopic=28022
This species is the hands down winner me thinks... |

Re: How big can a Ping get?
P. macrophylla can produce leaves as big as dinner plates, easily 6 - 8 inches each! P. morenesis is fairly common among the "giant" Pings. Andreas Wistuba sells most of them on his web site wistuba.com. - Rich
