Am I dying?
Guys,
Total newbie here requires input and advice. Received this nep from a friend who seem to have given up hope on it. In my opinion, it looks sickly and requires more then TLC to return to its former glory. Please advise on the next course of action. The whole plant. The upperside of a leaf. The underside of a leaf. The leaves seem to be spotted and there are no pitchers. Please advise if I need to quarantine this plant from my other healthy neps! BTW, what's the ID of this nep? Thanks for the advise in advance. |

Re: Am I dying?
the media too compact, become waterclogged when watering. Need to change to a well drain mix.

Re: Am I dying?
TranMinh,
This plant was planted in "burnt" clay; a type of soil sold at nurseries in Malaysia. It is actually clay soil burnt and left to cool and packed for sale. This plant was passed to me in in "as is where is" condition and I thought I could ask the many sifus here for advice on how to save the plant. Your offer of assistance is most appreciated. Robert, If that is the problem, guess that could be easily solved by changing the media, right? What do you suggest I use? Coconut chips with soil, perhaps? |

Re: Am I dying?
Hi...In my experience truncata is somewhat easy to be infected by stuff like rust spots....Mine always gets it and now still having it...Now also pitcherless..Reduce watering if there is rust spots..

Re: Am I dying?
The burnt soil you used was fine but was too compact. use the coarser ones so that it's well drain and airy. An alterantive media mix would be 60% perlite and the rest sphagnum moss.

Hi hornydevil,
My thinking is same as Robert you should change the media and use the potting medium like Robert say. I hope it can help you. Best regards, Tran Minh. |

Re: Am I dying?
Thank you everyone for the informative input. Will definitely change the media but I got a feeling that it would take a long time before the nep can regain its glory!

Re: Am I dying?
Sad to see a nep at this stage... but I think it can get back to it's glory if it's given some proper care.
Robert and others already given you good advice. Just remember N. truncata like it's media airy and not water logged since it's actually an epiphytic nep species. Hope it'll recover and grow healthy under your care. |

Re: Am I dying?
That N.truncata still has hope of surviving. Mine was like that when I bought it and now producing pitchers. Follow the other members instructions. I grow mine in sphagnum moss.
