What happen to 1 of my D. filiformis?

I have few pots of D. filiformis laying in my water tray. Yesterday, I did water change (2 weeks didnt do so) and just found 1 of my D. filiformis producing weired looking leaf... Anyone know what it that? What it means?

I think the plant is go for dormancy.

Looks like some alien creature... I didnt check my D.Filiformis for a month and the whole plant have been sucked dry by mealy bug.Damm...This is the 1st time my cp been attacked by insects.

As I also have a D. Filiformis, i did a search about dormancy, not too much info from my quick searches, but there were some info that they do get into dormancy and that they do form Hibernaculum (dormancy leaves) like Sarracenia. So my guess is that it is getting ready for dormancy. I actually appreciate plants that do make these dormancy leaves because it is a more positive/proactive indicator that it is ready to go to sleep. Unlike for example VFTs that some don't make those wide, ground hugging leaves when ready to go dormant.

By the way, I found that Filiformis easy easy to do leaf propagation, maybe easier than capensis. 2 weeks I get small nobs of plantlets on a leaf cutting already.

Hi Casey, that is definitely a plant in dormancy. You may want to cut back on watering and treat it the same way as VFT. Otherwise, take a few more cuttings and save the particular clone in case it doesn't recover from it.

I am 100% sure Cindy that you meant, treat it the same way as a VFT in dormancy. So the choice of dry dormancy or doing the Ref method. Good idea about taking some leaf cuttings and putting in potting mix to hopefully have plantlet clones if ever the main plant doesn't make it. I have been lucky enough for example to do exactly that with my first VFT, the original plant rotted away but I still have a clone, though that one is not in great shape now too, maybe in dormancy too!

Hi Casey. If the pot is only small you can seal it in a bag and put it in the fridge for a couple of months. You will get stronger growth out of dormancy if you do it this way. You do need the space in the fridge though.
