Default A lil' Ingenuity

So I was at the local PetSmart yesterday and seen these large Styrofoam boxes, and thought to my self those would be nice to have to ship large plants in during the winter. I asked the Manager there if I could have a few, He says to me sure take all that you want we get them in every Friday and we just throw them away .

Well I needed to make some more cutting's today, but had nothing to put them in (A Propagation tank). The 10 gallon tank I had some in was getting crowded so I thought to my self , how can I use one of the Styrofoam boxes. well here is what i came up with.

The Box

The Lid

I placed my cutting's into the box.

Here I cut a couple of lines into the lid so the lights would fit snug.

Lights on.

Here the lid is being placed on to the box with the lights on.

Finished and closed up.

I hope you like, and thanks for looking

Wow....it looks good...but one question, won't the heat generated by the light will be trapped inside the box and slowly "baked" your nepenthes?

So far it has not . I also am planning on placing a fan in a side wall to allow this to not happen . I thought about this very same thing after i closed the lid so i made sure that it is open in the corners to let the excess heat out.

wow, a very detailed and nice job you have there however the lamps that you used will actually causes electrocution due to the condensation during winter.....and the styrofoam box that you used might melt after long term running...hmm....you might want to do a test runs with the 'dampen potting medium' first before putting your babies inside...suggest you might need to use other material for the lid since all the electrical accesories are located on the lid.....

just my 2 cents

I wouldnt worry too much about the heat or electrocution. A normal fluorescent tube wont get too hot. Even after an hour of light its still possible to touch it without burning. So you can be pretty sure the styrofoam wont start melting.
You might get some condensation (although i doubt it with the fan and the low difference in temperature) but never enough to cause a shortcircuit. Water inst really a good conductor for electricity, you need to add salt for that.
Very nice setup!

Thank You very Much
I have had it in working condition for a few days now the temps do not get above 80º. so I think I am all good for now . I will be working on another one very soon.

hmm....wonder if an hour of 18w light is enough for them to grow.......better safe than sorry.
