Ripe seed... in July?

Hey guys. The s. minor var. okeefensis(sp?) that I got flowered for me in the beginning of the growing season. One flower was pollinated and started to swell. A week ago I noticed that the flower had dried out. I assumed that it had died and I wasn't going to get any seed. I looked at it today and saw that the pod had cracked open and there was seed inside. I am straftifying 13 seeds. Are they normally mature by early July? Its been only been 5 months.

Alcran Not an expert, but yes if it has started to crack then you have no choice but to collect and then to stratify... why only 13 seeds? I imagine you should have more. I had some ripe seeds of Sarracenia last year, but I didn't bother to stratify, so no germination for that batch at all.

As you live in NY, that means waiting until the start of thaw to plant them... long wait

Fortunately I don't have to wait until next spring. I can grow under lights for the next two years without dormancy. This gets mature plants much faster. It only works with seedlings though.

I wouldnt doubt that you have some that are ready
when i just saw some minors in the wild a few days ago, many of the flower heads were almost done ripening. good luck with the seeds

Thanks, hopefully with the year round method I'll get some nice plants in just 3-4 years.
