Uppers that hold onto something
A month or 2 back just tried out some ways for my upper pitchers to get hold onto something.......Some say that upper pitchers need support to form and if they don't they rarely form or it'll be smaller.....Some say it doesn't matter...But in my case i found out that upper pitchers of my miranda seems to like to have something to wrap over while forming and if it didn't the pitchers are much smaller almost half the size...
For example this 2 pics are upper pitchers which held on to something This 1 seems thinner and flared peristome For this pitcher i purposely did not let it wrap and look at the size difference with the one that held onto something And this is the "something" i use for my uppers to hold onto something and it works Ken

Re: Uppers that hold onto something
Good observation Ken haha...I noticed that with my uppers too. I think it's a way of preventing toppling over if the pitchers accidentally filled with rainwater.

Re: Uppers that hold onto something
My Miranda upper pitchers look like that too. The one with the red peristome is still considered intermediate, I think. I think the true upper pitchers are slightly smaller without red colouration, but that have striping on the peristome. I grow mine in a large plastic pot with 3 holes drilled around the rim, so that I can attach strong wired to it and form a tripod for it to climb into. BTW, is there any use for maintaining old miranda vines..? I just chop mine off because it looks kinda ugly with drooping leaves, and it has sprouted new basals..
