loose leaves in ping

Hi all,

Yesterday I finally got my first Ping plant. It's about 2 inch wide and came in a pot with sphagnum moss. I think it's a moranensis as it has no ID. Will post pics later. I have repotted the plant in a mixture of peat and perlite. However I noticed that Ping leaves are delicate and very prone to falling off. Is that normal or have I bought a Ping on the verge of rotting? Hope all can advise, as Pings are really new stuff for me. TIA, appreciate it guys....

Well your pings must have been comfortable without being repotted How are they doing now?

It could be the change of growing condition and further more you repotted it. Did you place the plant under sun after the repotting? But don't worry, it will be alright after a while. Those fallen leaves could be used for leaf rooting. They root quite easily if the condition is right.
Don't water your ping from top, water that stayed at the leaves may cause the leaves to rot when the hot sun cook the water on them. Try protect it from rain.

Nope, I put it in light shade, but the bottom leaves are holding the plant up so the roots are partly lifted from the media. The roots are few and short, but should I water it with some rooting hormone after a week or two just so that it can have more roots to anchor it down on the media?

Yeah, I watered them from above when I first got it. Now it's sitting on a shallow tray with a layer of pebbles and water (pot not in direct contact with water). I hope that is alright to maintain humidity, or is that necessary at all? TIA!

If your plant is lifted abit from the soil, you can just pick those leaves at the bottom off gently then refill with some soil to cover the roots. As long as the bottom part is in contact with soil, the plant will root in no time.
DON'T spray those hormone on pings, you will probably kill the plant.
It's not necessary to increase the humidity around the plant, our climate provide enough humidity for pings.
