Looks like it's a hybrid with at least some S. purpurea in it. Maybe its a purpurea x rubra, but that's just my guess.

hybrid of 5 S. purpurea!!! Huh...

I just think that it is rather tall for being a purpurea. And the lid isn't as wavy or as large as a usual purpurea either.

folks, YG has labelled it as s.catesbaie hybrid......

Casey, did you not get the other one as well ? or Edmund only bot 1 type for you ? I have another one which has a differently shaped lid.

I agree with marigoldsfail. I think its too tall to be a pure purpurea.
