Thumbs down My N. Rebecca Soper smells!

Ok the title pretty much says it all. My Nepenthes Rebecca Soper smells from one of its pitchers. I found out that it's only one of them, and that it's the one with a rainworm in it. You can only smell it when you get around 3 centimeters close to it, but how come it smells?

- Is it normal for nepenthes to smell when they digest their food?
Cause if it is, I won't be able to have it in my room I think..

Thanks in advantage :-)
Best regards,
Zawert

I think thats perfectly normal... if something is decaying inside the pitcher then that smell of decay should escape from the pitcher opening. I dont think that the pitcher fluids have a substance that could retard that smell of decay.

Hi Zawert,
If the smell is too much, you can just cut the pitcher and discard it. This won't harm the plant.

Weeelll, smell of decay is alright, although if the smell is really horrible, I would cut it and there's a chance that the pitcher will die off.

In my experiences with neps, they don't really release terrible smell when there's something decaying in it because they mainly catch insects. Those that DO have a smell usually die off for me.

Thanks a lot for the info and help. I think this was the last time I gave my nep a rain worm :P

As mentioned it only smells when I get really close to it and as long as the smell stays there it's not a problem. It doesn't smell that bad anyway but it does smell. And it's only the pitcher with the rain worm in it. Again thanks for all the replies
