You pot up a batch of Cephalotus plants! The plants arrive bareroot as usual. The ones shown here are the M to L size plants. This image is reduced by 13%, click it to view full size. Not much growth because it is autumn and they are just recovering from the summer heat. But look at those new offshoots... This image is reduced by 13%, click it to view full size. But the growing tips have started new growth. The best of the lot are the medium and large size plants. IMHO, they are easier to harden compared to the small plants. And fewer losses. Ali & Marigold, I can't tell how many plants there are now by counting the growing tips 'cos some of the larger plants come with more than one growth points. There were exactly 50 plants that came. But now I am sure I have less than that number of growing tips which are green. Most losses are the small plants. « Last Edit: Jun 5, 2008, 3:34pm by cindy »Link to Post - Back to Top Logged edmund83 Junior Member member is offline Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 94 Location: Muar, Damansara Re: SGF Cephalotus - to be harden and sold this J « Reply #12 on Jun 5, 2008, 5:15pm » My small ceph finally go to heaven... bless for my ceph... would take next time again ... hehehehe Link to Post - Back to Top LoggedEdmund ^^v http://www.flickr.com/photos/edmund830808/ ~~DrosEra F@n == CepH F@n~~ tarence Global Moderator member is offline Joined: Apr 2007 Gender: Male Posts: 1,523 Location: Bandar Kinrara , Puchong Re: SGF Cephalotus - to be harden and sold this J « Reply #13 on Jun 5, 2008, 7:02pm » Good to know Cindy....the turnaround time for loss of existing pitchers & growth of tips is quite fast yah ? just about 2 weeks. Tarence, Cephs acclimatise quite quickly if they are happy with the conditions. The only issue is that the large pitchers are all gone and most people think that it is a difficult species. The loss is natural as it is being sent bareroot. Just like losing the Nep pitchers after they arrive, but the Nep leaves stay intact so they don't look so botak (bare). Just thought about how I've never seen or heard of ceph flowers before. I'm assuming it's very difficult to induce them to flower. « Last Edit: Jun 6, 2008, 10:03am by marigoldsfail21 »Link to Post - Back to Top Logged cindy Global Moderator member is offline Joined: Aug 2007 Posts: 412 Location: Singapore Re: SGF Cephalotus - to be harden and sold this J « Reply #16 on Jun 6, 2008, 1:10pm » Here you go. http://icps.proboards105.com/index.cgi?b....lay&thread=1737 It is common to lose some of the smaller ones, not that many so I wouldn't worry too much. Hi Edmund,
If you compare the two photos, you will see that the plants are already producing new pitchers. Cephs are slow-growing so you can't expect the same speed of growth as Neps. They are for extremely patient or can't-be-bothered people who are willing not to check on them everyday. I have been trained by the plants themselves to ignore them. |

hi cindy & edmund
ignoring cephs really works for them. i just watered them everyday for like about a month w/out really looking, then *magic* saw offshoots. just got a small `batch` from taiwan. so the challenge is now ON to harden. having killed 7 so far, i think i am up to the challenge. heheh. what will work to my advantage is the fact that the cephs are tiny so it`s easier to harden. i think..... |
