mt kinabalu
my wife and i went to sabah mid october last year. of course, mt kinabalu is one place we wont want to miss. so, we went mountain climbing, ascend by mersilau and descend by timpohon. i would say that for plant enthusiasts, mersilau route is definitely better. lots of scenic points.
as we stayed in mersilau for 2 nights, we managed to visit the famous place where lots of rajah and burbridgea grow. they are everywhere and it is really strange, as all of them grow at an open area with lalang everywhere whereas before the river crossing, there were no pitcher plants at all, zilch. the secret apparently lies in the ultramafic soil. so, any die hard grower collect ultramafic soil for their plants? after the climb, the last thing i would want to do is to lug soil back!! so, all you nep lovers, you guys must pay a visit to the sacred holy ground of neps, your seceond hometown!!! newly opened burbridgea they certainly love to pose.... another pose from the top model of the year.... the whole plant and it is huge... this fusca doesnt want to be left out.... rajahs are a bit elusive and shy, always hidden in bushes another newly opened pitcher let me see, ali, kentosaurs, edwardyeeks and some others lining up for a pose........just joking guys, no offence!!! the whole plant on clear occasions.. few seconds later....it is all gone!! rocks everywhere the view is to die for finally the alpinist, villosa. this one is hidden and yellow under the sun, it is blood red plenty of orchids for orchid lovers too some fungi hope you all like these pictures.... thanks for viewing. |
