Yes, the worst on record. The drought here has been going for more than 10 years. Our water storages are down to only around only 30% and it has been the driest start to a year on record- only about 3mm in Melbourne in 2009 so far.

The tuberous Drosera still seem to grow well in winter. The small amount of water we've received each winter for the past few years seems to be enough to keep them going.

OMG I pity how Australia's condition is now!!! How long will it last? I have not kept track in news for quite some time.

Cheers

With the fires in Victoria only rain will really stop the fires in my option. Hopefully this occur in the next couple of weeks.
Sean how was the seedset on the glanduilgera around your area last year? Local plants here failed to set seeds due to early stop in the rains.
While Victoria has been suffering from terrible bushfires Queensland has been under water. 62 % of QLD is flood affected which is the area of South Australia under water. Good new from this flood is Lake Eyre in the centre of Australia is filling up and many species of birds will breeding soon.

Lake Eyre is a salt lake isn't it? Be quite a sight to see. Hope for rain in Autumn. Just 3 weeks to go.

Yes Lake Eyre is a salt lake. It only fills once in 10 years on average. Good news on the weather front. Temperature have dropped and both South Australia and Victoria have had rain. Here in SA we had about 20mm on average. This first good rain we had in 80 days. The fires in Vic are under control and are nearly out. At last.
