Default Down Memory Lane

Let's take a trip down memory lane. How did all of you get started in this strange hobby?

I was in sixth grade when my science teacher told us we had a science project. We were supposed to grow some plants and see what kinds of enviromental factors affected their growth. I went home and typed flytrap into google. After several hours I came upon a nursery that delivered by mail. A week later I have four ventricosa. And a flytrap. The ventricosa were for my experiment. I threw them on my windowsill and stared. They grew well and pitchered on every leaf. The flytrap even got nice red traps. At the end of the school year I had an A on the project. I had given away the flytrap and had on ventricosa making uppers. I gave away the three of my ventricosa to my friend who gave me a capensis and minor. He was growing carnivorous plants for the science project too. Two years later and I'm growing plans I've never dreamed of and have become a plant freak.

So, what's your story?

Well.........For me i liked to grow plants and one day i decided to start out a hobby...And i've heard of carnivorous plants and so i asked my mom to buy me one....But instead i didn't and got a non-carnivorous plant which i mistaken for a CP (inexperienced)...And later on i went to cameron highlands for my school trip and yet again i didn't get a carnivorous plant and i bought a little furry cactus...After that back home my family went to tesco for some cheap groceries hehehe and so i saw a NEPENTHES!!!!!! And bought it at RM 18 which is my very own N mixta x fusca or N gentle not sure...And thats when my crazyness came...I suddenly got so interested in them i started buying CPs......And well there goes!.

Well I have watched documentaries and read books that about CPs. But I still thought it was impossible for me to obtain a Venus Flytrap or Sundew. Then when my mom bought an ampullaria for me during Chinese New Year, I suddenly think it looks cute and fun to play with. Then I bought a ventrata which didn't pitcher because of my inexperience. Then when I shifted houses I left my neps in the old house. Then one day while I was searching for pictures of carnivorous plants when I came across this forum. I realized it was not impossible for me to grow a flytrap but my parents won't buy me one. Then thanks to TS I got my first flytrap and Ban Aik I got my first drosera. Thats when I got really 'poisoned'. Few months later I already have Cephalotus, Dionaea, Nepenthes, Drosera, Sarracenia and Pinguicula.

haha.. when i was in form 1 (7th Grade) i got the fever of CPs..my neighbour had tens of pots of neps.... although they kept dying(they were highlanders), he finally succeded acclimatising them to our lowland conditions..so yeah... thats briefly how i got the fever.

but back then i was only interested in neps.. i never knew of the existence of cephalotus, drosera, and sarracenia..even when i bought a pot of ceph or sarra i never knew they were from aus and the states respectively..

those days it was relatively hard to find CPs of other genera in Sg. Buloh.. until one day i made a visit to cactus valley in cameron highlands in 8th grade... my perspective of CPs totally changed.... =)

now i have drosera, VFTs, sarra, nep, ceph.. i have yet to obtain pinguicila, aldrovanda etc...

Lets just say, four months ago, my friend poison me. Another of my friend happen to ask my friend what plants he grew. My friend said that he has VFTs and other plants. Therefore, my other friend decided to buy one from my friend.

I was SHOCKED when I saw a VFT in my school. It pulled me like a magnet, I just kept wanting one since I was small. Finally, I got one from my friend, and decided to take care of it the best I can. Then, I found petpitcher and joined it, but that time I didn't know how to post.

After that, I got a sarracenia purpurea. Then after that, my VFT got problems. So I finally got to know how to post a thread on the forum . But too late..........my VFT died out of root rot............

And from that day onwards.............I SWEAR I WILL GROW ALL CPs AND TAKE CARE OF THEM THE BEST I CAN AND MAKE SURE THAT ALL PEOPLE AROUND THE WORLD APPRECIATE THEM AND GET ADDICTED!!!!!! FOR CARNIVOROUS PLANTS!!!!

Cheers
