Propagation - leaf pulling with rhizome and root

Two months ago I tried to inspect my venus flytrap to see whether I can separate the mother plant into several small plants. However,during unpotting of the mother plant I accidentally pulled a not so healthy looking leaf but it has rhizome and root. As a result I decided to try my first leaf pulling experiment with that leaf. Anyway, I found that the mother plant has only one rhizome therefore a single plant.

The medium used for the leaf is new wet sphagnum moss in water tray.The pot is left outdoor under a clear plastic shade with exposure to direct sun light but protected from heavy rain.

I noticed that it takes about 5 weeks to obtain growth of baby venus flytrap (1cm diameter size) from that leaf pulling.

Below showns the progress of the propagation. Hope this is helpful to other CP friends.

Nicely done and excellent step-by-step photos. In my experience, almost any piece of Dionaea plant with a little white on it (especially with any root) will start a new plant.

Include the flower stalk if around 2" high.

How did you actually do it??Just pull it out? 'cause some of my friends want VFT

Nice pics you've shown there really helpful.I have also did some cuttings and out of 5 only 2 suceeded well because most of them were unhealthy leaves since it droped about 3 weeks ago i took it out to take a little look a few days back and saw some growth yay soon will be getting 2 more VFTs.

What I did was first put the whole VFT pot into another larger pot filled with RO/rain water. With the water reaching the brim of the VFT pot. This helps loosen the medium. Then take out the pot and turn it upside down . The plant with the medium will just slip right out. I have to carefully remove the moss around the plant and try not to break the roots.

With the whole plant exposed, pull your selected leaf downward. This is leaf pulling with some rhizome.

I am not sure how other CP friends did to obtain their leaf pulling. Any simpler method?

Anyway , I actually have three leaf pullings of different conditions as experiment.
1) Unhealthy leaf with rhizome and root (this is what posted above. Successful)
2) Healthy leaf with some rhizome (Still in progress. But looks like there is growth. Should be able to conclude in 1 month time)
3) Healthy leaf with mininum rhizome (Still in progress.Seems to be unsuccessful)

Will post more updates when I have them.

wow. i love those pics. very useful. im definitely gonna try them after my exams.. 5 weeks is okay for a new plant! haha.
