My plants are infected
Hi everyone,
Recently,i just discovered that my plants are infected. At first i though they were sun burns but new leaves becoming red. These plants are not grown under full sun, they are grown under shade cloth. So it's impossible for it to be sun burn. The victims are: Rafflesiana frilled tendril alata 'surigao' rafflesiana x veitchii Here's some pics: BTW,is there anything to do to save these plants? Thanx!

Re: My plants are infected
Is there any small, black coloured disc shape under or some times on top of the leaf surface?Looks like a scale insect infection to me.
Because i don't like to use any chemical product on my plants,i stay away from insecticide. My natural method is just to drown the pest literally in a pail of water. You just need to soak the infected plant whole in a water.Leave it for about 12hours,then try to dislodge one of the scale.if the scale can be easily remove then the pest is dead.If not, then the pest is not dead yet.Try drowning it again for 6hours IMPORTANT:do not soak the plant for more then 24hours or you risk killing the plants to... once the pest are dead, remove the worst ***aged leaf and all of the scale.Your plant will look ugly after the treatment but it will recover if the pest do not infect the plant again. |

Re: My plants are infected
Hi Aliamyz,
I read somewhere in the forums, there is one way to rid the insect the safe way both for grower and the plant. You can put your plant inside a plastic bag, then pumped in CO2 gas inside the bag, then leave the plant in there for the whole day, as CO2 will kill the bugs and the plant can utilize the CO2 for photosynthesis. But don't exposed to sun directly, just put it at more shaded area. Well you can try that, good luck. Ed |

Re: My plants are infected
Hei! What an idea Ed....I never though of using a CO2 gas to kill the bugs. It’s just like drowning the bugs but by using air concentrate with CO2 instate of water.
By the way aliemyz, if you do not know where to get CO2 gas, here are some chemistry lesson for you. All you need is sodium bicarbonate or baking soda and vinegar.just mix it and WA LA..chemistry reaction...CO2 gases are bubbling.... |

Re: My plants are infected
Hey Ed,
What a good idea using CO2, I used to use CO2 to temporarily immobilize fruit flies when doing experiment... Thanks for the reminder |
