Maybe this could very well work in place of coco chips, as I've seen those in florist shops. Extremely absorbent material, but not wet to the touch. Marvelous!!

I have heard some people using the florists' foam, but it is inconvenient as you will have to apply liquid fertiliser continuously. The advantages of the foam is that it is porous, light, disease and pest-free.. It might be suitable for neps..

Here's the Roth that I bought the other day at Serdang Orchid Nursery.

There are two plants, both not yet mature. Leaves were eaten by slugs. Repotted them in coconut chips, perlite, sphagnum, vermiculite, charcoal, crushed brick.Topped with moss.

Hmm.. You got yourself a steal!!! A 2 growth roth for RM30?? I also want... Are the 2 growths actually one plant or separate plants potted together? They don't look quite, umm, 'attached'. Yup, it does look like a true roth (leaves are straight, not undulating or curved and light green), but its also fine if it turns out to be a roth hybrid like St. Swithin (x phil) or Lady Isabel (x stonei), which costs a bomb in M'sia..

Yeah paphioboy they are 'attached' as when I repot them they came up bound to a single base, like a rhizome kinda thing. Possible hybrid? Really crossing my fingers that they do grow well, otherwise I would have to look for a new home for it, to let it suffer in extreme lowland climes is abomination, let alone let it deteriorate .

So it is a single plant with 2 'fans' of leaves. That is good.. Takes less time to reach blooming size then..

If that ever happens, send it to me! I'll gladly pay postage.. hehe.

My mystery Paph finally decided to bloom this morning. Routed to be a concolor at first sight by look of the leaf patterning, the plant grew a flower bud last week. At first flower stalk emerged, everything seemed right until it did not stop elongating until it is about five inches tall. Confirmed not concolor, as they have short stocky stalks. But it's still confusing me. Is this actually a hybrid of concolor and niveum or just plain niveum?

Nice niveum! As far as I know, Paph Dr Jack (niveum x concolor) is not widely available in Malaysia..
