Default Fertilizing

Hey everyone. Just got me wondering does anyone here in malaysia fertilize their plants? If you actually do what do you even use? Recently i saw a few fertilizers from this shop called home-fix some are seaweed and some are fish emulsion from a brand called Yates..I'm not good in all this fert stuff so i don't really understand it. So basically im asking if anyone uses fertilizers on their plants and what are the results. I've been reading a lot of threads from this guy called rainforest
http://lhnn.proboards.com/index.cgi?...ad=2460&page=1

and he has amazing plants. And well he seems to encourage fertilizing when i read his threads. There are names of several fertilizers in his threads but i don't think i can find it here.So yea

Ken

well Im not from malaysia, but I'll chime in anyways.... I fertilize my neps when I
fertilize my orchids, since both are in the same growing area. Also I put a piece of
osmocote in a pitcher per plant, about every 3-4months or so. Results are great
especially for bicalcarata and ampularia.

Robert, I'm not sure if there are different types of fertilizers for this osmocote brand but if there is what do you use like the NPK and stuff(non urea etc etc)

Raphael,
Could be...

Kenneth,
For young plants I use 3 months 14-14-14 (NPK). For adults plants I use 6 months 13-26-7 + 1.5% TE.

Rob, can you post a pictures of the osmocote fert as i'm not sure how it looks like. i can't find it in my place. . I'm using soya base fert(tau pooi in hokkien) on my neps, which comes in transparent packing without any label. I don't know whether it's the same with osmocote but my plants thrive on them.

Osmocote looks like round yellow balls. It is slow release, so will fade over time.

Robert, do you put the osmocote on the medium or in the pitchers..? I have heard that some nep growers (Cindy in Singapore) putting 1 granule in each pitcher.

Teoh,
I will post some pics of the osmocote when I got the chance. Your soya based fert, what's the NPK? Is it organic based?

Paphioboy,
I put the osmocote inside the medium. Since I like to get a nice top dressing of live moss, putting osmocote on top of the live moss is a big NO NO, algae will overtake the live moss in no time.

I didn't put the slow release fert or purposely put food into the pitchers as the pitchers are very efficient in trapping their own preys

Rob, the soya fert is a slow release organic base ferteliser but i don't know about the N-P-K value as it came in transparent packing without label. I'm also using it on my juniper bonsai as it does not burn the leaves even if i dumped a lot of them on each pot.
