Hi Kent and Amit,

That green 'slimy thing' on the right side, is a gametophyte. The non-sexed precursor to a fern plant. It's hard not to get spores landing in your media and starting to grow. Think of it as good practice for your future fern growing adventures! But generally I pluck 'em out with tweezers and put them in their own bed of sphagnum because some of them have root systems that will just take over your nep seedling boxes! They need to be close together and constantly moist so the sperm can swim between each other to fertilize them.
