Question about N.Truncated pots
Hello I just wanted to ask about how long the pots of the truncata live for I have had some live only a week and others live for over a month is there any thing that makes them live longer or die faster I do feed them bc they are in doors and do not get any food at all but I dont over feed them only 1-2 fish ever 3-4 weeks and never in the same pot yes there are live fish I have been feeding it fish for 3 of the 4 years that I have had it I clean the fish off with distilled water b4 I put them in they do swim around for about 3-4 hrs b4 they die some pots I have been able to feed 2-3 times b4 the pot dies others start to die shortly after I feed them
I feed my plant fish bc I have found it makes the plant look better over all the plate is greener its bigger and looks happier after it gets the fish I have try other bugs but nothing has made it look as good as it does with the fish bugs and other things I have tried ants, cricket, flies, neil worms, earthworms, fruit flies, maggot, a praying mantis just to name a few

Re: Question about N.Truncated pots
Wow u actually feed fish to them? Well i've never tried that but could that possibly make the traps last shorter because as it rots it might cause the pitchers/traps to rot as well..Maybe just go with bugs but well if it works well for you ignore me . Anyway for truncata a plant usually has 2-3 pitchers or even just 1 at a time based on my experience so yea you don't get bunches of 14 inch pitchers. Hope this helps

Re: Question about N.Truncated pots
The pots are called pitchers in fact, pitchers die faster when fed more. Also, feeding animals tend to cause rot inside the pitcher and make them die off faster. Insects are more easily digested and more of it's nutrients are used by the plants. As for fish, since you grow it so well, I can't say it's bad for the plant, but I can't imagine the plant using all the nutrients from the fish such as calcium, iron and carbohydrates. Therefore, bacteria thrive more easily on these dead fish, causing more rot and pitchers to dry off.
Feeding one BIG stuff also causes rot faster. I once fed half a slug into my truncata. The pitcher liquid was completely murky and blur within a day and in a week, the pitcher dried off.

Re: Question about N.Truncated pots
Techncally, feeding neps with non insect food can decrease the longivity of the pitcher. But if feeding guppy fish works for you, then continue what you feel best for you. To increase the life of a pitcher, feed it less often and don't feed it with fish.
