Default Grammatophyllum speciosum - How Big Can It Grow?

As you guys might already know, Grammatophyllum speciosum can easily become a big giant clump. But, it is very rare that we can see such speciment. Usually, what we see being sold in orchid nursery only have 3-5 canes.

I'd like to share 2 marvellous speciment that I found around where I live.

First clump
This is next to a restaurant in my hometown. I've seen this plant since 14 years ago and it is already a big clump back then. Luckily enought for me, it is also in bloom.

Second clump
This is in one of the nursery in Nibong Tebal

If anybody is interested in viewing it yourself, I'll be more than happy to be your tour guide (provided I'm home at the time )

Thanks for the assistance ofered. Think can get some during the floral exhibit. Just as well I have a fail safe method to spend minimal during such times. Just put fifty in wallet and no more.

Hi Harris...

Weeeee... nice tiger
You are indeed very lucky to see them in bloom because most of the tiger only bloom once every few years... BTW the inflorescent actually gives out some very nasty smell...

Thanks for sharing^^

Regards
Jonathan

bactrus,

the cheapest tiger orchid i've found is for RM20 in Padang Besar, Perlis and the plant have 3 canes about 1 foot long. Usually, pots with 3-5 canes about 2.5 - 3 feet long will cost around RM120.
