Byblis cuttings experiment - following David's example

Notice the upper portion with green leaves and the lower portion with the dead leaves



This is a portion of the stem with green leaves still intact. It is now producing two offshoots (the reddish large one on the right and a small one to the left).


Somehow cutting at the area which no longer has fresh green leaves kills off the main stem.

This one has turned completely brown.


This one is drying up from the cut end.


The growing tips which were cut off.

This is doing well, leaves are still firm.


This one is going, going...the leaves have gone limp.

The 2nd cutting is gone. Didn't make it. Interesting, even the main plant didn't take well to the cutting.

cindy, why stop at byblis ? why not cut up a d.indica to see if offshoots will appear ? heheh. i doubt so tho.

btw, i think byblis peaks ( i mean flower power ) for about a month then it starts to falter. your say ?

Where were the cuttings placed? When I did mine, I kept the media very wet and the cuttings were covered completely to keep a 100% humidity around the stems.

The best part is D. indica don't grow for me. Dunno why. They germinate when the sun is strongest then the weather turns gloomy. Put them under lights and they don't grow up.

Byblis flower power...not sure but I think mine was quite long. In my memory (which is very bad lately), the three adult plants I have now have been flowering since May. It is only recently that the seed pods are significantly smaller.

The two which were cut at the same time are kept under lights. One died, the other didn't. I placed another in my Nep pot with LSM at the balcony and it is surviving. Another smaller one about 1.5cm tall is also doing well. Not too bad...3/4 success rate. I didn't take any stem cuttings. Maybe I should try but I have not space left at my rack. I think I am going to be stuck with a couple of hundreds of Byblis seedlings!

The cuttings all sprouted new growth with no cover, just room humidity. I have stronger plants from more mature leaves.
