OK I have done some research and come up with the technical name for what I have been trying to explain above.

I believe you may have cleistogamous flowers. These are flowers that do not open and are self pollinating in the bud. This is known to occur in Utricularia's but I have not seen or heard of it happening in sandersonii before. Perhaps others out there have had some experience of it in this species.

Whilst this may explain why you don't have flowers it is little consolation for your loss.
