Sundew found in Malaysia! (part 2)
After visited the habitat of Drosera burmannii in Kuching, I knew that I have to look for sandy and sunny spot if I want to see D. burmannii in Peninsular Malaysia. But, where can I find this kind of habitat in Peninsular Malaysia? According to some very old records, D. burmanii was found in Kedah, Terengganu, Pahang and Johor. I used to stay in Johor for almost 2 years. I met quite a few of Nepenthes and Utricularia but never met a Drosera in Johor. As for Kedah, many places already converted into paddy field. The chance to see sundew in Kedah is very slim. So, Terengganu and Pahang might be the good place to explore. In last few years, I did go to Terengganu for fish sampling. I can see quite a few promising spots but always got no chance to stop.
Last week, Robert and I were going south for Betta and Nepenthes searching. I want to search for new location of Betta stigmosa before going down to Johor. We decided to go across Tasik Kenyir to Kuala Terengganu from Gua Musang. It's a long and winding road! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z6ZegjrEIGQ to be continued... Few hours later, we start to see some limestone along the roadside.
When we came across this fast flowing river, I knew we were lost. We supposed to cross the Kenyir Lake but there was no road to move forward. |

We made a U-turn and took another road. After an hours, we were far away from the river. The landscape now changed into a scrubland!
We decided to stop at this place when we saw some pitchers hanging from a tree. |

It's a N. gracilis. A common species in Peninsular Malaysia.
N. mirabilis. Nothing special. |

That's a burmanii! The flower stalk is really long. Mine do not give out such long flower stalk in cultivation. The media looks kinda dry as well. Amazing they can survive in such conditions.
