Site 3 : N. mirabilis & N. gracilis
This is the 3rd site. Different type of forest, more undergrowth on the forest floor as sunlight can penetrate better with sparse canopy. Site 3 : Habitat ![]() mirabilis-01 ![]() mirabilis-02 ![]() mirabilis-03 ![]() mirabilis-04 ![]() mirabilis-05 What a beauty !! ![]() ![]() ![]() mirabilis-06 Sorry for the blurry pic. I've noticed some N. mirabilis from this location have slightly squatter/fatter lower pitchers. Perhaps it's a link to the evolutionary path of N. globosa "Viking" ?? ![]() mirabilis-07 ![]() gracilis-01 ![]() gracilis-02 ![]() gracilis-03 ![]() gracilis-04 ![]() gracilis-05 ![]() gracilis-06 ![]() Thanks for viewing, sorry for the long long post even it's just for some common L/L neps but I felt it's important for me to document and share among fellow enthusiast. I have a strong feeling it's just a matter of time before what I saw will be all gone in the name of "human development". ![]() Last edited by NepNut; 23rd October 2009 at 05:49 PM. |

Just some update, after reviewing "Pitcher Plant of the Old World" Vol 1 by Steward McPherson, I think the N. thorelii that I have observed could have been the "undescribed" N. kongkandana.

Hey Jon! Great to see you back on the forum. Finnaly got your internet access up in the steaming tropical jungles of Sabah eh.
Man! I just love mirabilis-05 aka hot-hot lips! Do you guys think that some of them might be hybrids or thorelii? Gracilis-4 is a very beautiful specimen... all red on its picthers. That's red colour and not maroon right? Are all the pitchers on this plant red in colour? I know TS will go gaga when he sees this red gracilis. ![]()

You're very much welcome Jon... if you're in Sabah now, I envy you more....
![]() David, Ya, gotta love the mirabilis "hot2 lip" ![]() I also love the red/maroon form of N. gracilis, there's only a few plants that produce this kind of pitcher and all the pitcher have similar coloration. Maybe can ask Dr. Charles to check if whether the N. thorelii from Site 1 is in fact N. kongkandana ![]() ![]() |
