I know it will use up some of the flytraps energy. BUT I'm scared that the plant will die because it is too weak.

If the flower stalk is more than 8 cm (about 3 inches) long, you might as well let your plant finish flowering. The most you can do is keep you plant environment stable to reduce the stress.

Of course don't forget to try get some seeds from those flowers.
This site has some tips on getting those flowers to produce seeds.

plantlover,

Cut the flower stalks off and use them to get new plants.

You need flower to obtain seeds by performing self pollination or cross pollinate with flower of other VFT. You can also use the flower stalk to grow new plant (like leaf pulling)

wow! i myself did not know that VFTs can be reproduced from flower cuttings..

after planting the cuttings, is it advisable to keep it in a terrarium or would a shady area do?

just wondering whether i should allow my VFT to flower now.. haha

Ken, I noticed that in your growlist, you don't have droseras yet, I suggest you try them, specially the Annuals (if your conditions allow), they should give you flowers easily

I have been a bit lucky because one of my newly purchased VFTs had a flower stalk, I cut it off, then another one came out, so I decided to let it flower and try to get seeds, I got maybe a few, but not sure if they are viable. Did it just for the heck of it.

When I got some plants from TriffidPark Aus, VFTs, etc. the plants were not so happy from being bare rooted, but after 2 weeks they bounced back and maybe 5 VFTs had flowerstalks, and 2 Sarracenias. I however cut them off because I felt they were still weak from the trip and still acclimitizing.

All the flowerstalks were not thrown away though, coz I read the same idea that they can be used as cuttings like leaf cuttings. Some of them are still sitting there.

I do have a Capensis plantlet from a flowerstalk now, but it is still fragile.

For Droseras, I'd say D. Capensis, D. Spatulata, D. Burmanii are great candidates for getting them to flower and get seeds. Plus I feel that they don't get stressed from flowering. Heck my D. Spatulatas are still flowering now.

Good luck!
