I bought this RM40 a small one what species are they? did they need direct sunlight? why the leaf like that? is it not healthy? « Last Edit: Dec 12, 2007, 5:38pm by bifurcatum »Link to Post - Back to Top 60.50.134.163 northiana New Member member is offline Joined: Jan 2007 Posts: 7 Re: @MY NEPS@ « Reply #1 on Feb 12, 2007, 10:51am » Hi the first plant is a Ventrata hybrid. Easy growing but prefer lots of bright light. The second one is a Miranda ( maxima x ( mixta ) ) it grows like a weed . Bright light and it will produce huge pitchers. The leaves looks like bruised , its normal don't worry about it just try not to wet the leaves by night time before long new leaves will grow to replace them. The plant looks robust and healthy enough. Sometime my miranda also have leaves like that especially on older leaves. No worries. When you place it in a location with more sunlight, becareful that the potting media does not dry out. Mirandas also take alot of water, perhaps because they are so huge. But this is a very tough nep and is able to tolerate a variety of conditions. Use a systematic insecticide and spray the whole plant including the media. Make sure the media and under the leaves are also sprayed with insecticide. Separate the plant from the rest of your plants or else the pest is going to spread to the rest of your plants. By the way, does the new developing leaves looks deformed? If it does you can be sure it is pest attack. Don't worry, with insecticide the pest will be gone. If you do not use a sytemic insecticide, you'll have to spray once every few days for a week or so to kill off any new pest that have just hatch from eggs in the media. Systematic Insecticide is good as it stays in the plant and media. So whatever eggs that are left when hatch will be killed and they will not have the opportunity to lay more eggs. « Last Edit: Feb 14, 2007, 1:38pm by David »Link to Post - Back to Top LoggedMy Wantlist bifurcatum Senior Member member is offline Joined: Jan 2007 Gender: Male Posts: 381 Location: Batu Pahat, Johor Re: @MY NEPS@ « Reply #5 on Feb 20, 2007, 5:48pm » my plant become more terrible now Link to Post - Back to Top 60.49.72.217 David Administrator member is online Joined: Dec 2006 Gender: Male Posts: 2,326 Location: Kuala Lumpur Re: @MY NEPS@ « Reply #6 on Feb 23, 2007, 8:55am » I think it is ok. Your plant looks really healthy. Why do you say it is more terrible? The brownish colour is quite normal. My plants have it too. Anyway it is only that one leave. The two newer leaves does not have it. Sometimes when they recieve more sun, the leaves become like that. Have you already use insecticide on the plant, and if yes what type and how much? It could be caused by that. Hmm, what do the rest of you think? Robert? Fauzi? Let me also ask Chien Lee. Make sure the media not too compact and hold water(too wet). Is the pot too small for the plant size? Attack by insect-use the recommended type by the supplier. Place the plant in bright but cool shade. Direct sun in our weather will burn the leaves. And from my experience, this nep grows very well in a shady spot. I hang the pot at the porch, does not receive any direct sunlight throughout the day. I think it is like what robert said, i needs a cool place to grow well. Although a few Nepenthes species can tolerate full tropical sunlight the entire day, usually this is not the case. With a parentage of N. maxima and N. northiana, I would guess that your N. 'Miranda' would probably prefer a situation with more diffuse light. Try putting the plant under 70% shade cloth. Your earlier photos are a bit more difficult to diagnose. However, the underside of the leaf looks like it was damaged by insects as the leaf was developing. Could be thrips, but difficult to say. Is the plant still suffering from this? Zak, that is Ch'ien Lee. If you look under my announcement, I have an introduction there about him. He has graciously agreed to drop in some time when he is free and not travelling on field trips to give us some advise on neps.
