Well after some thinking cooling down a tank and all that might be a little expensive and stuff..So i guess humidity tanks should work okay too..Not good but okay
Anyway, i'm not sure if i can even build a tank as my family isn't really keen on having plants (living things) in the house cos of the ants and bla bla stuff... Another problem is about the water at the bottom of the tank.....It will also be and also ideal spot for mosquitos to breed....Definitly a no no.. So how do you guys which have tanks prevent mozzies from breeding in your tanks??? I talk to much but i'm not done The tank would have to be enclosed right to maintain high humidity...So how are the neps gonna get air circulation and preventing fungus from killing them???? 1 more thing...As for tanks...I wonder what should be a suitable size...And also how much do tanks averagely cost...Does'nt have to have curved sides...those are $$$$$ just plain old rectangle tanks.. Okay no replies but i have more Q haha...How bout the cover for the tank??? What should i use to cover it to maintain high humidity... And also does leaving a small 1-2cm gap at the top of the tank make most of the humidity traped inside go away?? Does this defeat the main purpose of the humidity tank/terrarium

Hi delwin..So nice of u too visit this thread..I intend to grow intermediate too HL neps...Since some members or at least one has success in growing those kind of neps by providing constant high humidity..

Re: Humidity tank Q's
Hi Ken,
I use glass to cover the top. Some users use acrylic. You can actually buy a fish tank in an aquarium shop these days with acrylic or glas cover already built in. That would save you the trouble of buying and cutting a piece of glass and figuring out how to support it on top of the tank. If your terrarium is covered with only a small gap, you should not have mosquito larva in the water in the tank. Also If you wash the tank regularly, maybe once every 2 weeks or so that would wash away any mosquito larva. So far I have not problems with mosquito larva in the water cathment area in my Terrarium and I am quite lazy to wash my terrarium. So the there is always water there for a long time. As for air circulation, I use an aquarium air pump.

As for the humid, go to the glass cutter, have them cut for you a piece of glass. At the top corner of the glass where you are going to place the fan, cut a 1 inch small hole. By doing this, you will have gas exchange yet able to hold the humid stable in there. It will be bettet for you to spray it atleast twicw a day.Your humidity will be ard 80%+ - constant. You can insert a small tubing at the back of the tank to the reservoir for ease of water exchange. You can also go to the aqurium shop to buy a fan for fish tank. Just drop in on a coner of the tank. I hope your mini intermediate ecosystem would be a success. Delwin. |

Re: Humidity tank Q's
Okay thanks i think i'll use saucers so that cleaning will be easier...Oh yea david whats an air pump haha?? Is those which blow "bubbles" when u put it in the water (bulb headed at the end)?? And if it is how does that aid with air circulation??

Re: Humidity tank Q's
Yes, those u use for your aquarium fish. Fresh cool air is pumped into the tank and pushes hot air from lights out of the tank through gap. It will also create humidity as the air breaks the water surface at the bottom of your terrarium

Re: Humidity tank Q's
Yes there are batery operated ones but not a good idea. It does not last long. Most probably only a day, then you have to change bateries again. Why not use an extension cord to pull an electrical line outside?
