Thanks Ed, kit1212, Wong and Shamrock, most of my neps are still young, hope they'll be even beautiful when they reach maturity.

kit1212,
I just started using seaweed based fertilizer via foliar spray. I used to apply fertilizer into the pot to fertilize the root zone but I don't like the eventual development of blue green algae slime overtaking the LSM.

Whenever I repot I always add some slow release type fertilizer like Osmocote. So far, I haven't encouter any side effect with the application of slow release fertilizers.

Thx for the reply.Judging from your beautiful neps, fertilization does help a little. How much strength you use to spray your nep with seaweed fertilizer?

Actually, I just started foliar spray 1 month ago, so I can't comment on it's effect. I guess the osmocotes did help since I've been using them for almost a year now.

For seaweed fertilizer, I use 1/2 the recommended dosage, I suspect full dosage shouldn't be a problem for foliar application but that I have not yet tested. I think for chemical based fertilizers, it probably safer to go down at least 1/4 of the recommended dosage.

Thanks TS. When can we have the pleasure to see your "little" nep collection??

kit1212,
It depends on the pot size and the age of the plant. On average I would say about 15-30 pellets per pot. Younger plant will not require that much.

If I may add, I would still prefer nepenthes to recieve it's nutrient by capturing it's prey through it's pitcher, even with all the availabilty of man made fertilizers. I still think that's the best way to "fertilize" the neps.

Generally speaking, the idea to fertilize nep is to make it grow even better on top of natural feeding via it's pitcher. Is not critical to fertilizer nep in order to grow it successfully but through my observation, fertilization seems to increase the size and produce greener looking foilage. However, I didn't observe any remarkable increase in pitcher size but that might be due to other factors like temperature, humidity and maturity.

It's a slow release pellet type fertilizer. It's apply in the media to fertilize the root zone. These type of fertilizers are often called "Osmocote" because this is the first company to sell it on the market.

I know there are other brands of slow release fertilizer in Malaysia that were sold in nuseries but I haven't see the original "Osmocote" sold in northern region. I got my original Osmocote from Thailand, it's widely available there.
